What we store in your browser

Four things, all kept in your browser: • Your language preference, so the site loads in the language you chose. • Your name, nickname, and email if you contribute — so you don't retype them next time. • A first-visit dismissal flag, so the language picker does not show again. • A lookup token and the list of approval IDs you have already seen, so only you can read your own pending and approved contributions, and the same approval banner does not appear twice. That is everything. All of it lives in your browser's local storage. Your lookup token is sent only to our database when you ask to see your submissions — never to any third party. You can wipe everything at any time by clearing site data in your browser settings.

What we never do

• ✗ No advertising — we will never show you ads.
• ✗ No advertising or marketing trackers — no Facebook Pixel, no Google Analytics, no Meta, no TikTok, no retargeting, no marketing automation, no ad networks, no profiling pixels. (For anonymous visit counts and error monitoring we use one cookieless service each — see the next section.)
• ✗ No fingerprinting or session-replay — no FingerprintJS, no FullStory, no Hotjar, no Heap, no LogRocket. We do not record your browsing — what you click, type, or scroll while you read is never captured.
• ✗ No data brokers — your email, name, and personal information are never sold or shared with data brokers, marketers, or anyone for commercial use. Your identity is amanah.

About the Atlas data itself

A masjid's name and address is public knowledge, and the Atlas compiles that knowledge into a structured record for the Ummah. At full launch, the Atlas itself will be freely available to individuals, students, researchers, charities, and Islamic developers building free tools. Institutional and commercial use — government Awqaf departments, vetted Islamic organisations, ecosystem developers — will be licensed transparently and with attribution via a forthcoming Developer API. Data brokers, surveillance, adversarial use, and reselling without a licence will be explicitly forbidden under the Contributor Licence Agreement (drafted; finalising at launch). This is separate from your personal data — which is, and always will be, amanah.

What we DO count

We count anonymous page-views via Cloudflare Web Analytics — so we know if 5 people or 5,000 came today. No cookies. No fingerprints. No user IDs. Cloudflare's servers briefly see your IP at the network layer, as they do for any web request, but per their policy do not store it against individual visit records. We have no way to correlate visits to one person. We use Sentry to catch JavaScript errors silently when the site breaks. Sentry's servers see your IP at the network layer — unavoidable for any error report — but we configure the SDK to strip your email, your form data, and URL search parameters from the error payload, and we drop every DOM-interaction breadcrumb so even errored clicks are not recorded. Both services are inactive when the site runs on a developer's local machine. If either ever processes a piece of personally-identifying data outside these scoped uses, that is a bug — report it.

How long we keep your data

Your contributor identity — email, name, nickname — is kept on the platform as long as you have one or more submissions on the Atlas. This is so we can credit your contributions and so you can claim them later if you create an account.

Abuse and security audit logs (rate-limit hits, blocked submissions, origin violations) are kept for a maximum of 12 months for security review, then automatically purged. We do not store IP addresses on submission records themselves — IPs appear only in the security audit log, and only briefly, for the specific purpose of detecting bot abuse.

The submissions themselves — the masjid records you contributed — are kept for as long as The Masjid Atlas exists. They are sadaqa jariya, and they belong to the Ummah.

Your contributions vs your identity

A masjid you submit becomes part of the Atlas — a record for the Ummah, sadaqa jariya. But your personal identity attached to that submission is yours.

If you ever wish to sever the link between your identity and your past contributions, we honor that as an amanah-aligned principle: the masjid records remain on the Atlas (they belong to the Ummah now), but the contributor identity link is replaced with "Anonymous Contributor."

The Masjid Atlas is currently in βeta. Formal contact channels and self-service tooling for data requests — copy of your data, correction, deletion, identity severance — are being built as we transition to wider public launch. They will be published prominently on this page when ready.

In the meantime: we have stored what is genuinely needed and nothing more. The minimum-data principle is built into the system itself — not a promise we ask you to take on trust.
